        Questions

Does the Retevis MateTalk L2 need a license?

The 4G push-to-talk part needs only a SIM card with data. The analog part transmits on VHF 136–174 MHz and UHF 400–470 MHz at up to 5 W, which needs a license or a licensed business channel in most countries; the license checker shows the rules by country.

Can the MateTalk L2 talk to Baofeng and other analog radios?

Yes, in Analog mode, on the same VHF or UHF frequency and sub-tone, like any FM handheld. In RPT mode Retevis says the L2 relays between a PoC group and a local analog channel; the compatibility tool explains how PoC and analog radios connect.

Does the Retevis MateTalk L2 have Zello?

Yes. Zello is built in and works directly on the radio, with its own orange PTT key on the side. Retevis's own PoC server is the second option.

How big is the MateTalk L2 battery?

3,000 mAh, charged over USB-C. A spare battery cost $22.99 on Retevis's US store in October 2026.

Which LTE bands does the MateTalk L2 support?

Retevis sells a US and an EU version with separate firmware, so ask the seller for the band list of the version you buy.

Does the MateTalk L2 come with a SIM card?

Yes, one SIM card with 800 MB of data a month for the first year. After that you renew it or use a local SIM; Retevis sells a USA annual-plan SIM for the L2 at $15.99 (October 2026).
