Voxer on a phone
Voxer runs on ordinary Android and iPhone phones. Here is its screen on a phone: tap a feature or the side key to see how a shift works with it.
Tap the talk button on the screen for the next call, hold it to talk; the tabs switch the app's screens.
Website ↗What is the Voxer walkie talkie app?
Voxer is a push-to-talk messaging app for iPhone, iPad, Android and the web. Each chat has a talk button: voice reaches online listeners live and stays in the chat as a playable message for everyone else. Voxer calls this live and recorded audio and says other push-to-talk services are live-only.12
Chats also carry text, photos, video and location, and a group chat holds up to 500 users. The app runs on 2G, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi and needs no proprietary hardware.23 Voxer's home page names hospitality, transportation, field services, construction, education, retail, delivery and logistics as its industries.1
A phone app and a dedicated radio trade off differently; see PoC radio vs phone app.
Is Voxer free?
Yes, the Personal plan is free. It includes live and recorded voice, text, photos and video, location sharing, one-to-one chats, groups of up to 500 and end-to-end encryption in private chats. Messages are stored for 30 days, and Walkie Talkie mode is not included.43
Walkie Talkie mode, voice-to-text transcription, message translation and AI summaries belong to Pro + AI. Business adds team controls on top of Pro.4
How much does Voxer Pro cost?
As of October 2026, Voxer Pro + AI costs $49.99 a year, shown as $4.17 a month, or $7.99 a month. The monthly plan shows a promotional $4.99 a month for the first three months. Pro + AI adds Walkie Talkie mode, transcription, AI summaries, translation and longer storage.4

What does Voxer Business include?
Voxer Business costs $6 per user per month, billed yearly at $72, and is aimed at teams of 20 or more. It adds a private network, user and team management in a Business Account Console, multiple admins and single sign-on support. Enterprise is quoted and offers dedicated cloud or on-premise hosting.42
The console and Business chats give admins these controls:2
- Create a private network and set its privacy rules.
- Add, create and remove users and teams.
- Assign more than one admin.
- Control who is in a chat, recall a message and send one-way broadcast chats.
- Turn on extreme notifications, which are loud, repeated alerts, per chat.
- Use Dropbox integration.
The pricing page lists AI features for Business as coming soon. The business page offers a free trial.42
Which devices does Voxer run on?
Voxer runs on iPhone, iPad, iPod and Android devices, and in a browser as Voxer for Web. Its FAQ says any iOS or Android device that can download apps works. An average 7-second voice message uses about 14 KB of data, so 1 GB holds roughly 34,000 voice messages.34
A text message averages about 700 bytes.3 The PoC data usage tool shows the same arithmetic for radio channels.
Where does Voxer run, and how is data protected?
Voxer runs as a vendor cloud service; Enterprise adds dedicated cloud or on-premise hosting. Private chats are end-to-end encrypted and other traffic uses TLS/SSL. The privacy notice says personal data may be transferred, processed and stored anywhere in the world, including the United States.235
- On-device storage is FIPS-compliant when the device has a lock code.3
- Voice, text, video and image messages sit on the sender's device, the recipients' devices and Voxer's servers.5
- The privacy notice has a supplemental section for EU and UK GDPR and names the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as one safeguard it may use for transfers.5
What are the limits of Voxer?
The Business Account Console manages users, teams and chats; it is not a call-dispatch screen. Voxer keeps Walkie Talkie mode, transcription, translation and AI summaries behind Pro + AI, and Personal storage lasts 30 days. Enterprise hosting, dedicated cloud or on-premise, is quoted.24
- The Business plan lists AI features as coming soon.4

Its FAQ says any iOS or Android device that can download apps runs Voxer.3 Ask the radio's maker whether the PTT key works with the app.
Can Voxer talk to DMR or analog radios?
