Does Samsung make a walkie-talkie phone?
Samsung does not sell a walkie-talkie radio. Its Galaxy XCover phones are rugged Android phones built for field work, and Samsung names push-to-talk among the uses of their programmable keys. The current pair is the XCover7 Pro, from April 2025, and the XCover7, from January 2024.12
Both phones carry IP68 sealing, MIL-STD-810H testing, a 6.6-inch touchscreen that works with thin leather gloves and a battery the user can swap.12 Samsung adds a note that matters for push to talk: walkie-talkie use needs a compatible third-party solution, bought separately.1
The XCover7 Pro is the one Samsung pitches for radio-style work. Its two stereo speakers use anti-feedback noise reduction, which Samsung says cuts the howl when several phones on the same channel are close together, for crews on construction sites or in emergency response.1
Which Samsung phones have a push-to-talk key?
Neither phone has a key labeled PTT. The Galaxy XCover7 Pro has two programmable keys, the XCover key on the left side and a Top key, and the Galaxy XCover7 has the XCover key only. A push-to-talk app is assigned to one of them.12

The second key on the Pro lets one key run push to talk while the other keeps another job, such as barcode scanning or an emergency alert, which Samsung lists as the other typical uses.1 Compare the two side by side in the radio comparison tool.
Does Samsung have its own walkie-talkie app?
No. Samsung runs no push-to-talk service and ships no walkie-talkie app with the XCover phones. It says walkie-talkie use needs a third-party solution bought separately, so the app comes from a carrier, such as Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile, or from a push-to-talk platform such as TASSTA or Microsoft Teams.1
What Samsung supplies is the hardware side and Knox, its enterprise security and management layer. Both phones have Samsung Knox with Knox Vault, which keeps security keys in an environment isolated from the main processor and memory.12 Samsung's North Africa page adds that remapping a key to some apps may need a Samsung Knox license, and that some apps cannot be remapped at all.4
For the difference between a phone running an app and a dedicated PoC radio, see PoC radio vs phone app. The wider class of phones with talk keys is covered in push-to-talk phones.
Which push-to-talk services list the XCover phones?
Three US carriers list the Galaxy XCover7 Pro: Verizon Push to Talk Plus, AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk with FirstNet Rapid Response, and T-Mobile Direct Connect. TASSTA lists both phones. GroupTalk, Mobile Tornado and Microsoft Teams Walkie Talkie list the XCover7, Teams outside North America only.567891011

A dash means the service's own list does not name that phone. The carrier services and their prices are compared in carrier push to talk, and TASSTA has its own page at /software/tassta/.
Older XCover models appear on more lists. GroupTalk covers the XCover 3 through XCover 7, Microsoft lists the XCover6 Pro, and Zello's hardware page names the earlier XCover Pro.91112 To check a platform against a specific device, use the app compatibility checker.
How do you set the XCover key to push to talk?
The key is assigned in the phone's settings. Microsoft's instructions for Teams are typical: install the app, open Settings > Advanced features > XCover/Active key, turn on Control XCover key with app and pick the app. Other platforms publish their own setup guides; GroupTalk links one for the XCover 7.119
- Which key. On the XCover7 Pro, either the XCover key or the Top key can take the app; on the XCover7, only the XCover key.12
- Which app. Samsung says key mapping support varies by app and the keys are limited to select functions.12
- Fleets. Large deployments set the key through device management; Microsoft documents an MDM route next to the manual one, and Samsung notes that some remapping may need a Knox license.114
What should you check before buying a Samsung XCover for push to talk?
Check that your push-to-talk service lists the exact phone, that the model code fits your network, and how you will connect a headset. Carrier lists name the XCover7 Pro, and the Pro has no 3.5 mm jack, so wired accessories need USB-C.3567
- Model code and bands. Samsung's North Africa pages list LTE bands for the SM-G766B (XCover7 Pro) and SM-G556B (XCover7), both including the 800 MHz band 20; AT&T's list names the US model SM-G766U.346 Check yours in the LTE band checker.
- Audio. The XCover7 keeps a 3.5 mm jack; the XCover7 Pro uses USB-C and Bluetooth.23
- Spare power. Both phones take a spare battery and charge on POGO pins in a dock; batteries and docks are sold separately.12
- Support period. Samsung promises security updates for the XCover7 Pro until 31 May 2032.3
